Washington County Mark

Mutual Insurance Company of Washington County, Hagerstown, Maryland, 1846 - 1935, changed name to Blue Ridge Fire Ins. Co. BU#163, cast iron. Rare mark no prior sales, 9.68" X 7.66". Excellent condition; cast mounting hole; no grinding except at location of possible sprue at center of right edge. This museum quality fire mark is found in the collections of the the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian; New York City Fire Museum and Fireman's Hall Museum, Philadelphia.
